Jan Chwalczyk
Jan Chwalczyk was born in 1924 in Krosno. Between 1946 - 1951 studied painting at the Academy of Fine Arts in Wroclaw. He was a cofounder of the Function & Color Group in the end of 50's. Chwalczyk belongs to the Wroclaw School which was rooted in structuralism and Polish analitical abstraction. In 60's Chwalczyk was focusing on optical studies of light which brought him to the three dimensional light paintings. He was part of the legendary Mona Lisa Gallery in Wroclaw, Poland. His artworks integrate light with form and color. He is one of the precursors of Polish minimal and contextual art. His works are in major Polish and European museum and private collections.
