Galina
Shevchenko
Born 1972 in Moscow, Russia
Lives in Chicago, USA
Works across the mediums of painting, printmaking and video
installation.
Galina
Shevchenko draws anthropomorphic sensual creatures in her
sketchbooks and records with her video camera abstract urban
matter, architectural details, lights and glimpses of nature.
The two raw visual substances are later processed on the computer:
the video is turned into mesmerizing realm of saturated pulsating
glow; the drawings are animated into dances of desire and
ambivalence. Combining spontaneous line and heavily processed
video into infinite loops of sprawling baroque folds and sensual
uncertainty , Galina juggles between the new technology and
painting, evoking mythological dependencies and emotional
permutations.
Selected
solo exhibitions.
