I’ve been doing a bit of family research, and in the process I’ve gotten pretty interested in history. Which is funny, because I hated it in school. I think, though, that is because school history seems so disconnected from our lives — it’s all about someone else’s life. Now, though, I’m ready to find a history book club and join it, and read all about the history surrounding my research. It’s will be easier and, I think, give me a fuller picture than if I do it piecemeal, through searches and stuff. That’s a great way to find little items that you or the author may have missed, or just not included, but I need the complete story to see where that item might fit in. Besides, I just love book clubs. I joined a few when I was a kid and few things were more exciting than seeing the postal worker deliver a box with books in it. Yes, I was an odd child.
